The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a major prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
